So Yay!!! Let’s welcome in Scorpio which began on October 23rd! Honestly, some of my favorite human beings EVER have been Scorpios! My father was a Scorpio born November 9th. He was very intense, deep, and introspective with a smile like the Cheshire Cat that was irresistible and a laugh that was contagious. He loved meteor showers, intensity, and exploring the underworld of cultures too. Also he was a well known lady’s man and never had to wait for a girlfriend.
Another Scorpio in my life is Joe Letz the well known drummer of the goth, industrial band Combichrist who is extremely driven, very intense, and obsessively passionate about drumming and his musical career.
A third Scorpio in my life was my highschool best friend Ken Bernier who traversed the underworld, magick, and the occult and largely influenced my passion for these magickal topics today!
So, I would have to say that Scorpions are some of my favorite folks! They live in depths and extremes, and for better or worse are ruled by their emotions… For Scorpions there can be an intense love or intense hate, and with that, the hate can sometimes come a sting! The element that rules Scorpio is water, and is feminine. Scorpions are ruled by the planet Pluto who’s archetypes include the Magician, the Shaman, Healer, and Witch! The shadow of Scorpio can be the vampire or the black magician! Pluto can be creative, transformational, healing, and fruitful. Yet the energy can also be cruel, dark, brutal, devouring, sadistic, destructive, or lethal. Hello passion and intensity!
The symbol of Scorpio comes from a death rune that is finished with a scorpion sting! Scorpions are drawn to things that are concealed in society such as secrets, those things that are suppressed in culture, and taboos too!
Relating to Pluto can feel like a juxtaposition between both Power and Helplessness. There is also an energy of emotional entanglement with Scorpions along with a tendency to obsession. The energy of Scorpio and Pluto does not shy away from depth or the deepest darkest abyss. There is a deep desire to transform and transmute old structures and values.
The problem with this energy comes with it’s obsessive tendency which leans toward sadism, tyranny, and a misuse of one’s own powers. Problems can certainly arise with this tendency when the Scorpion is driven by instincts and a pathological addiction to control. Did someone say revenge?! Scorpions could benefit from the ability to step back and gain distance!

The Goal of the Scorpio Pluto energy is Radical Transformation and it also rules the sexual organs too! Personally I see a deep connection between sex and death, as sex can be the energy from the unseen manifesting into matter, and death can be the energy of matter going back to the unseen. Sex and death are a door way… Also think of the use of sex and death in horror movies…
The Tarot Symbol of Death is Chronus, the Grim Reaper, or Death and He also Represents Harvest and Transformation!
I read the Thoth Deck and Major Arcana XIII – Death is not surprisingly sacred to Scorpio! The image is that of the Grim Reaper, Saturn, or Chronus wielding his scythe to cut through all that is not needed any longer or is in the way. There is a fish that represents the past. A serpent which represents transformation. And of course a Scorpion which represents the sting of death. Also, Death is wearing the crown of Osiris, the Egyptian God or resurrection. The giver of life is always the imminent giver of death!
In regard to Halloween and Scorpio season there is no surprise then that skeletons and images of the Grim Reaper abound! The healing, deep, dark transformational energy of Death, transformation, and harvest are paramount to the energy of Halloween!
